A Wisher's Night

A wish of two thousand stars above the sands became too bright for my eyes

which watered more as I watched red-eye when you appeared from the mist

Amidst, I unclenched my fist to the mistake of missing you in the mist at first

But now to the next, with wishlists whilst holding hands, we will watch scenery as the night changes

Diamond stars passed by swiftly as the silvery moon shone fixedly on us

A pleasant feeling it was, with love encompassing us as we chat in calmness with our feet to the shore

Your songs of uplift placed me in wonder of the peace in your heart and thought

For my turn I gathered pieces of words to tell of the challenges we overcame and fought

As I saw u trying not to cry clearly to my words of flair, suddenly my vision began to blur

Then a force of gravity so strong pulled me from the brevity of our space into a mist of short sightedness

Opening my eyes from a fall off my bed, I hit the wall realizing that I had another dream of no forgetfulness

Rising up to reality and caught at the eye, was your beaming smile among my portraits of wishes

Commentary

This poem drifts between a wish and a dream. A night beside the sea, a reunion in the mist and a shared walk under the stars end with a sudden fall out of bed, leaving only the memory of a smile.

Under “two thousand stars” that are “too bright” for watering eyes, the speaker sees a loved one appear “from the mist” and, after a moment of doubt, unclenches a fist. The two then hold hands and plan to “watch scenery as the night changes.”

Diamond stars pass, the “silvery moon” shines, and the couple chat “in calmness with our feet to the shore.” The speaker is moved by the other’s “songs of uplift,” then takes a turn to speak of “the challenges we overcame and fought.”

As tears begin to show and the speaker’s “vision began to blur,” a strong pull of gravity ends the scene. The speaker wakes after “a fall off my bed” and finds it was another dream, but the poem closes on a lasting image: “your beaming smile among my portraits of wishes.”
