A bitter evening in a holiday's eve, even the moon was hiding
Stars so far as if leaving, my heart beating, no kidding
The news of your collapse froze me as time elapsed
It came with no excuse to lose or be left unscrewed
Running through the rain, short of breath, kind winds withdrew
Hope slowly taken, my head aching and hands shaking
I sped past the nurses, cares and voices

Till my eyes met you, tears came without choices
Doctor with assurance relaying, pastor with family praying
Sweet sleep carried you smoothly, then the breath of life sprang through you comfortably
Drawing your hand close to my chest, feel my heartfelt beat
To the beat of love, of faith and strength overcoming
Opening your eyes, lights of our future was kindling without dwindling
Listen to my heartfelt beat, for by your side I stay till you are okay

Commentary
This poem follows a night of fear that ends in relief. A sudden piece of news sends the speaker running through the rain to a hospital bed, and the words “heartfelt beat” become both a pulse and a promise.
On “a bitter evening in a holiday’s eve,” with the moon “hiding” and the stars “so far as if leaving,” the speaker hears “The news of your collapse.” Time seems to stop, and the news arrives “with no excuse.”
The speaker runs “through the rain, short of breath,” with “hope slowly taken” and “hands shaking,” past “the nurses, cares and voices” until their eyes meet the loved one’s. There, “tears came without choices,” while a doctor gives assurance and a pastor prays with the family.
Sleep carries the loved one “smoothly,” and “the breath of life sprang through” them again. The speaker draws their hand close to feel “my heartfelt beat,” and the poem ends with a promise: “for by your side I stay till you are okay.”
