I wear the colors of the earth
To blend like foliage amongst scenes of life and death
A sniper's game of willingness is a focus of the mind
To pinpoint calmness, be laser-guided in chaos and make lingering danger to be left behind

Through the lens I see afar, yet my inward gaze is so near
Serenity shields me when calls to battle speaks to the ear
On fields of fear my will stands strong within and against unseen threats I win
Invincible without a flag, like a chameleon in camouflage

Commentary
In eight lines, this poem becomes a sniper’s creed. Stillness, patience and calm are the weapons, and the chameleon at the end sums up the whole idea: to win by not being seen.
The speaker wears “the colors of the earth” to “blend like foliage amongst scenes of life and death.” A sniper’s “game of willingness” is “a focus of the mind,” and the goal is “to pinpoint calmness” and stay “laser-guided in chaos.”
Looking “through the lens,” the speaker sees “afar,” yet the “inward gaze” is “so near.” “Serenity shields me,” the speaker says, even when “calls to battle” speak to the ear.
On “fields of fear” the speaker’s will “stands strong within and against unseen threats,” and the poem closes on the image of being “invincible without a flag, like a chameleon in camouflage.”
