Sleep Little One

Sleep Little one, for there's no reason to fear this night.

You have enjoyed your bedtime story, with a view of twinkling stars which shone in might.

Playfully, I had checked under your bed for monsters and promised to watch you turn into a sleeping beauty.

Kindly sleep little angel even your teddy bear won't leave you amidst the songs of a distant nightingale.

The colored drawings of your dreams had always marveled and made me care much of your bedtime.

I wish you a good dream little one as I hum a lullaby in your journey to a magical story.

Caressing your hair with much love at heart, I will wait a little more.

Lest you wake up abruptly and walk half-asleep to me at the door.

Farewell in wonderland, little one and may you open your cute eyes frankly to a new morning.

With a hope that you will hop on your bed with energy as you get ready for another fresh day.

Commentary

TThis poem is a tender, lullaby-like ode to the gentle transition between wakefulness and sleep. Through warm imagery, soft rhythm, and nurturing tones, it evokes a deep sense of comfort, love, and security. The speaker reassures the little one, easing any fears of the night, and guiding her into a serene journey toward dreams.

The poem begins with a soothing reassurance, telling the child that there is no reason to fear this night. The bedtime routine is filled with love and care—checking for monsters under the bed and promising to watch over them. The child is comforted by familiar elements—a twinkling night sky, a faithful teddy bear, and the soft song of a nightingale.

As sleep approaches, the speaker marvels at the colorful drawings of the child's dreams, showing a deep appreciation for her imagination. The transition between wakefulness and dreams is beautifully depicted as "a journey to a magical story", reinforcing the idea that dreams are a place of wonder and delight.

The gentle caressing of hair adds another dimension of warmth, indicating the speaker’s deep affection and patient watchfulness. Yet, there is a recognition that sleep is fragile, lest she wake up abruptly, walking half-asleep toward comfort once more.

Finally, the poem closes with a farewell to wonderland, wishing the child a joyous morning—one filled with energy, renewal, and the excitement of a fresh day.
