Along the amusing railroads, April thrills
With a free bill for every drink spilled
Until each cup is full, and no note is wrong
Fulfilled, we will react to the art of poetry, painted and untainted
dosed with creativity, moving like a secret pill unseen
Making work a joy, not a routine

April thrills with an upcoming trailer to soon unfurl
of a jawed predator, an unwelcoming visitor
Designed to awe in stillness
nevertheless it kills, devoid of silliness
With popcorns, we'll watch the building scenes
And catch the hype, blown with trumpets on screens
An April thrill drives over steeps like a vibrant tide
Over hills, mills and miles, it does not hide.

Commentary
This lively poem gathers everything that makes April feel like a beginning: a walk along the railroads, a round of drinks, the joy of making poetry and the buzz of a film trailer. Its rhymes keep it moving like the tide it ends on.
The poem opens “along the amusing railroads” where “April thrills” with “a free bill for every drink spilled.” The celebration lasts “until each cup is full, and no note is wrong,” a picture of a party and a piece of music finished at the same time.
Poetry is the heart of the mood. We “react to the art of poetry, painted and untainted,” “dosed with creativity, moving like a secret pill unseen,” so that work becomes “a joy, not a routine.”
Then a darker note arrives: a trailer “of a jawed predator, an unwelcoming visitor,” “designed to awe in stillness.” The crowd settles in “with popcorns,” to “catch the hype, blown with trumpets on screens,” and the poem ends on “a vibrant tide” of April thrill that runs “over hills, mills and miles.”
